OPERATING AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

1. OPERATIONAL CHECKLIST

Prior to using your Tubing Scraper, verify the following parameters;

  • Make sure the entire tool is free of loose dirt and grease
  • The blade and blade housing should be free of dirt
  • The blade housing is spring loaded and should move in and out freely


NOTE – If any of the aforementioned items fail, do not use the tool, take corrective action

2. PIPE PREPARATION PRIOR TO SCRAPING

Prior to installing a Tubing Scraper make sure the pipe has been properly prepared.

  • Take care to remove enough soil around the circumference of the pipe to spin the tool freely.
  • Wipe excess soil, dirt, mud, water, or other contaminants from the pipe using a clean cloth
  • Remove or “pop out” any small stones or miscellaneous debris that may be embedded in the pipe from directional drilling applications

3. INSTALLING A TUBING SCRAPER

Before you install your Tubing Scraper, verify that your tool is the appropriate size for the pipe you are about to scrape.

  • Insert the mandrel into the pipe attached to the properly sized tubing scraper.
  • Secure the tool by tightening the knob clockwise. Do not over tighten.

4. OPERATING A TUBING SCRAPER

Once the tool is installed properly, rotate the tool around the pipe.

  • Make sure the tool is operating smoothly
  • If operating properly, the tool should creep down the pipe removing a consistent ribbon
  • Verify the ribbon is even and complete throughout operation
  • Refer to Section 5 for proper ribbon thickness
  • Scrape in accordance with pipe, fitting, and company specifications
  • When the blade of the tool has traveled over the entire area to be scraped, remove the tool from the pipe by loosening the knob counter clockwise, pressing the spring pin and pulling the tool off the pipe.

5. CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Your Tubing Scraper Tool should be periodically checked for visible wear and tear. Although many of these items are covered in the operating instructions, the following list of items will assist in keeping your tools operating properly.

  • Is the tool clean and free of foreign material? (dirt, excess grease, etc…) – Clean with compressed air, a clean rag, or a light soap/water solution – Allow tool to dry completely before using
    – Apply a light coat of grease to the operating screw
  • Is it hard to rotate the adjusting knob?
    – Bent Feed Screw is a result of abuse. Usually the tool has been dropped, run over, or over tightened with a wrench.
    – If you discover any abnormalities with your tool, please contact your distributor for service or to order replacement parts.


Blade Replacement/Rotation

The Rotary Scraper blades are 4 sided and can be rotated if they become dull. The procedure for rotation and replacement is the same.

  • Remove the blade screw with a torx #T15 driver
  • Remove blade from blade housing and rotate or replace
  • Insert the blade into the blade housing
  • Start threading in the blade screw
  • Press and hold the blade upward into the blade housing with your thumb • Gently tighten the blade screw


DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE BLADE SCREW. OVERTIGHTENING MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE BLADE HOUSING AND CAUSE THE SCRAPER TO SKIP
